History of the „Bibermühle“

Embedded between steep rugged rock and forest next to the romantic waterfall of the river Biber and just below the medieval town of Blumenfeld the Hotel - Restaurant Bibermühle (Beavercreek Mill) can be found.

The first references of the mill  reach back to the 12th century. The Bibermühle (Beavercreek Mill) was known as „Untere Mühle“ (Lower Mill) for a long time. Many farmers of the area brought their harvest to this mill. During the 30 Years’ War (1618-1648) the mill was burned down. In the year 1668 the owners started to rebuild the mill.

After the reconstruction of the corn mill the Merk family became the owners of the mill for over 70 years.

In 1973 Christina Pineker and Herbert Schmid bought the „Untere Mühle“ from the descendants of the Merk family. From then the mill was called „Bibemühle”, just named after the small creek that gave the mill its power to grind corn. It took ten years to renovate and remodel the mill into a restaurant. The new owners invested an enormous amount of time, passion and love for details in their project, e.g. the newly built mill wheel with a 12 metres diameter.

In the year 1986 the Riemensperger family from Engen bought the Bibermühle. A new hotel including a sauna was added to the restaurant in the year 1994. Since then the Hotel - Restaurant Bibermühle is well - known in the Lake of Constance - Black Forest area as well as in Switzerland.

We wish you a pleasant stay and are very pleased to welcome you in our hotel-restaurant.
